Yemaya I
£250.00
This original painting from the Ashé collection represents Yemaya, goddess of the sea. She is the most powerful Yoruba female deity who grants wishes. 7 is her number and I illustrate her here alongside 7 waves.

This piece is part of the Ashé collection, in which I give my personalised interpretation of gods and goddesses of the Yoruba religion from West Africa. I paint each deity in profile as per the ancient Egyptian art: the figures do not interact directly with the spectator who is then invited to explore the colours, symbols, numerology and stories of each divinity.
